Tips to Keep Your Mood up on Spring Rainy Days

You have probably noticed when the rain falls, your mood goes down with it. Your gloomy mood may be just a coincidence. But can rain deflate your mood?

Spring rainy days can have a depressing effect on people. Bad weather can affect your mood, so it’s not uncommon to feel down during a downpour. According to research, about 10 percent of people are “rain haters.” This group becomes grumpy and unhappy on rainy days.

What can you do if rainy spring weather has a negative impact on your mood? Here are tips to keep your mood up on spring rainy days.

5 Spring Rainy Day Activities to Lift Your Mood

The spring rains can be depressing. Sure, some people get through it, but who wants to go out when it’s raining?

The best way to deal with the seasonal downpour is to accept it. Instead of wallowing in misery, try these tricks to boost your mood.

1. Get Cozy and Read a Book

You can never go wrong with a good book and a good pair of fuzzy socks when it’s raining. People often buy a book because they like it, only to forget about it. Commit yourself that the next time it’s cold and rainy, you will dig into it.

2. Play a Board game or Cards

A board game can be a lot of fun for two or more people. Sadly, they used to be a lot more popular than today because people are so occupied with their smartphones. Try playing a board game instead of staring at your phones while it rains.

Monopoly, Trivial Pursuit, and Scrabble are among the most popular board games. Add some fun by making a special edition like Doctor Who or Game of Thrones (or something similar).

Even though you’re likely to have a great time, you should also expect some drama. Competitive board games can be a lot of fun.

3. Movie Marathon

Movie marathons are one of the best ways to pass the time on a rainy spring day. Something is calming about curling up on the couch to watch your favorite movies while the rain pours down outside.

4. Mend Old Clothes

Do you have a pile of old clothes that you’ve been meaning to fix but haven’t yet? A rainy spring day is an ideal time to go through your closet and pull out all the items that need sewing. Grab your emergency sewing kit and get to work on repairing those holes, snags, or frayed ends.

5. Catch up with Friends and Family

A rainy day is a good opportunity to spend some time catching up with the people you love. Send emails, write letters or cards, or make phone calls.

Bottom Line

Spring can be fun, but the forecast for rain makes planning difficult. Follow nature’s lead and use the spring rainy season to nourish and grow your inner self.

Perform tasks you are normally too busy to complete and allow them to boost your mood. Take care of yourself long before the summer days arrive.
